1st Annual Islamorada Dolphin
Tournament
The Islamorada Charter Boat Association’s 1st Annual Dolphin Tournament
hosted 57 anglers in the quest for 3 big fish. This tournament took on a new format. The boats entered as teams
with an unlimited number of anglers to fish this two day event. The combined weight of three fish would determine the
winner but only two fish could be weighed each day. After the first day of weigh-ins at Whale Harbor the Nuff Said with
Captain Scott Stoky was in the lead with his two fish total of 43.4 pounds. The Yank’em was close behind with
a two fish weight of 39.0.
On day two when the scales closed Nuff Said anglers Cecil, Bobby, and Kyle Everett,
from Inverness FL along with Russell Eaves of Tavernier, Tim Schlehuber, Robert Riley and Rick LeMaire from Key Largo would
win the first annual event. The team’s fish each weighed 25.7, 17.7, 26.7, and 20.2 with the three largest totaling
72.6 pounds.
Second and third place would be separated by only one tenth of a pound after
two days of fishing. The Game Hunter fishing Anthony, Brynn, and Brook DelDuca, Charlie, Zoe, Chase and Darline Bertucci,
Ryan, Paul and Julie Sandfeillippo all from Naples Florida would take the second place honors with a three fish total of 65.5
pounds. The Game Hunter had a true family affair with all the kids enjoying a beautiful weekend of Dolphin fishing.
Team Cajun would weigh the biggest fish at 28.2 pounds on the second day.
Their fish from day one weighed in at 18.9 and 18.3 pounds. Giving anglers, Dennis and Pamela Matherne, Tom Siano and
Sean Henry all from Vero Beach Florida, a third place finish with 65.4 pounds of Dolphin.
The fun fish division weighed a 6.3 pound Little Tunny (Bonita) on the Yank’em
and a 10.9 pound Wahoo on the Predator. All in all a good time was had by everyone. Whale Harbor hosted another
great event for the Islamorada Charter Boat Association. Other sponsors included Watermark Marina, Unique Marine, Gray
Taxidermy, Avet Reels, Key Largo Rods, Mangrove Mike’s, and Caribee Boat Sales. The Islamorada Charter Boat Association
would like to thank all involved for helping to support fishing in the Fabulous Florida Keys!
